Part of what makes Palm Beach County “The Best of Everything” is the ease at which residents and visitors can fly in and out of Palm Beach International Airport (PBI).  Recently, the County received the exciting news that PBI has been recognized as the 3rd Best Airport in the U.S. in the prestigious Conde’ Nast Traveler 2020 Readers’ Choice Awards.  This rating comes on the heels of ranking second highest amongst medium-sized U.S. airports by J.D. Power North America Airport Satisfaction Survey, distinguished as ninth Best Domestic Airport by Travel & Leisure Magazine’s 2020 World’s Best Awards, and Best in the U.S. for Shortest Overall TSA Wait Times by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

More than 715,000 Conde’ Nast Traveler readers submitted responses rating their travel experiences across the globe.  The Readers’ Choice Awards are the longest-running and most prestigious recognition of excellence in the travel industry.

Under the leadership of Director of Airports Laura Beebe with the support of the County Commission, PBI has continued efforts to improve the overall customer experience.  Even in the midst of a challenging year with COVID-19, PBI has provided the excellent, convenient and robust air service that business and leisure travelers have come to expect, while working diligently to uphold fiscal responsibility.

During the unprecedented pandemic, PBI developed a comprehensive guide of protocols focusing on operations, facility management and communications.  PBI became the first airport in Florida to achieve GBAC STAR facility accreditation from the Global Biorisk Advisory Council for prioritizing health and safety for all passengers, employees and guests by ensuring a safe and clean facility.  This accreditation program is performance-based and designed to help facilities establish a comprehensive system of cleaning, disinfection, and infectious disease prevention for their staff and their buildings.

Recognizing a growing market, JetBlue will commence daily nonstop service from PBI to Los Angeles International Airport on November 19, 2020.

Direct access to PBI from I-95 adds to Palm Beach County’s appeal not only for vacationers but also for businesses relocating their headquarters in our diverse local economy.

The Palm Beach County airport system, with four facilities, has a direct annual economic impact of $558 million.  It is financially self-sustaining and receives no ad valorem tax dollars or general funds.  All funding is generated from user fees paid by the airlines, general aviation companies and users, parking facilities, and restaurant/retail leasing revenues.
