At the Nov. 17, 2020 Board of County Commissioners meeting, Commissioner Maria G. Marino was sworn into office as the new District 1 commissioner. 

Before being elected, she served on the Palm Beach Gardens City Council as a councilmember in 2016 and mayor in 2017 and 2018.  She represented the city on numerous county and statewide boards including the Palm Beach County League of Cities, Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council, Loxahatchee River Coordinating Council, North County Intergovernmental Committee and is the immediate past chair of the Palm Beach County Transportation Planning Agency.   In addition to servi​ng as a strong civic leader for more than 25 years in Palm Beach County, she has been a member of the Ladies Professional Golf Association since 1994.  ​
