On June 13, Vice Mayor Hal Valeche joined Executive Director Lisa Richman of the Richard David Kann Melanoma Foundation, donors Dan and Tiffany Bowers, representatives of the Loggerhead Marinelife Center, residents, and Parks & Recreation Department staff for the unveiling of a public sunscreen dispenser at the Juno Beach Park Pier.

Commissioner Valeche stressed that while we love to enjoy our beautiful oceanfront parks and beaches, it is vitally important to stay sun safe. He shared his own personal experiences growing up and recreating in a time where there was little awareness of the long-term effects of unprotected, overexposure to the sun, and how he now receives treatment for sun damage to his skin.

“Palm Beach County prides itself in being innovative, and it is fitting that we kickoff the dispenser installation at the pier, with the popularity of this location with fishermen, surfers, and beachcombers alike,” he said.

The automatic sunscreen dispenser, which is provided to the public free of charge, was made possible through a partnership of the Palm Beach County Parks & Recreation Department and the Richard David Kann Melanoma Foundation to help promote sun safety and provide protection against harmful UV rays.
