In the November 1, 2021 South Florida 100 article, Commissioner Maria
Sachs shared the following updates:
Last week: Palm Beach County initiated a program for emergency rental assistance for
those
individuals experiencing financial difficulty impacting their ability to pay rent. It is in the
county's interest to give financial help to those who could become homeless or face eviction.
Anyone who qualifies for unemployment or has incurred significant costs due to COVID-19 may be
eligible. Contact RentalAssistancePBC.org to register.
Looking ahead: The area of the county known as the Agricultural Reserve has gone
through numerous
changes since its designation over 20 years ago. Since then, the county has changed, and its
population has more than doubled. Yet, despite this growth, the needs of the residents of this
special area have remained the same – protect agriculture,
maintain open spaces and provide social amenities such as community centers, dog parks, soccer
fields and cultural centers for the people who call the Agricultural Reserve their home. These
issues will be part of a public discussion next
week as the Palm Beach County Commission meets to renew its commitment to its residents.
