At the Board of County Commissioners meeting on Sept. 13, 2022, Commissioner Maria Sachs presented a proclamation declaring Sept. 26, 2022, as The Guatemalan-Maya Center Day in Palm Beach County. Fifty years ago, the Migration and Refugee Service of the Diocese of Palm Beach was founded with Father Frank O’Loughlin as the director, and years later, it was incorporated as The Guatemalan-Maya Center in Palm Beach County. To acknowledge the center founder Father Frank O’Loughlin’s decades of service to the community, his birthday, Sept. 26, has been designated as The Guatemalan-Maya Center Day.
