Commissioner Marino joined the Juno Beach Town Council, police and fire personnel, and residents to remember lives lost on 9-11-01.  In her remarks to honor the sacrifice of first responders and ordinary citizens who reacted with extraordinary heroism, Commissioner Marino made special mention of Chief Brian Smith, Major Paul Fertig, and Officer John Fleming of the Juno Beach Police Department who helped search for survivors and remains at the World Trade Center site.

She acknowledged that the events of that fateful day gave rise to major U.S. initiatives to combat foreign and domestic terrorism, including the creation of the Department of Homeland Security in 2002, and the formation of the 9/11 Commission charged with investigating the events that led to the attack and subsequent battles on foreign soil to combat further terrorism.

Commissioner Marino saluted our armed forces in fighting the global war on terrorism and highlighted the numerous non-profit organizations that have helped to restore freedom and independence to veterans wounded in combat.
