At the Board of County Commissioners meeting on Dec. 6, 2022, Commissioner Mack Bernard presented a proclamation declaring December 2022, as Impaired Driving Awareness Month in Palm Beach County.

In 2021, 2,935 drivers were arrested in Palm Beach County for driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics, and there were 1,087 total crashes, 61 serious injuries and 35 fatalities all caused by impaired drivers.

The county recognizes the importance of honoring those who have been killed or injured in drunk or drugged driving crashes as a result of any alcohol or substance-impaired driving consequences, as well as anyone who has been emotionally devastated by these violent crimes. All citizens are urged to join in local efforts to raise awareness and to honor the lives of those killed or injured as a result of drunk driving, drugged driving or underage drinking consequences.
