At the Board of County Commissioners meeting on Jan. 10, 2023, Commissioner Marino presented a proclamation declaring Jan. 11-15, 22023 as Seminole Maroon Remembrance Days in Palm Beach County. In partnership with Palm Beach County Parks & Recreation Department, Palm Beach State College - Palm Beach Gardens campus, Loxahatchee Battlefield Preservationists and the African American Research Library and Cultural Center of Palm Beach County Inc., the Florida Black Historical Research Project Inc. is hosting the “185-Year Seminole Maroon Family Reunion" January 11 through 15. Culminating on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, the Annual Seminole Maroon Spiritual Remembrance brings these diasporic communities closer together and strengthens the unity of the community with greater knowledge of this shared collective heritage.
