At the Board of County Commissioners meeting on Feb. 7, 2023, Mayor Weiss presented a proclamation honoring Dr. Alina Alonso. Dr. Alina Alonso has been serving the medically underserved through the Florida Department of Health in Palm Beach County since 1989. As director from 2009, she oversees operations of one of the largest county health departments in the state. Under her leadership department employees provide a full range of primary services at seven health care centers located throughout the county. Services include epidemiology, communicable disease control, environmental public health, nutrition, emergency preparedness, school health and community health and education. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Alonso provided daily, weekly and on-demand briefings to community leaders. She participated in countless presentations and ensured there was health equity for non-English residents to keep all families safe.
