At the Board of County Commissioners meeting on April 4, 2023, Commissioner Bernard presented a proclamation declaring April 23, 2023 as Coach Marty Riger Day in Palm Beach County. The Jewish Sports Heritage Association named Marty Riger the Outstanding Jewish Coach of the Year in honor of his passing last year. Coach Riger received numerous coaching awards and is a member of the Jewish Sports Heritage Association and Brentwood High School Basketball Halls of Fame. Under his leadership, his teams won the Suffolk County championships three times and were among the final four teams, eight times. Coach Riger led an exemplary life of service and was a positive and uplifting influence on all who knew him.
