At the Board of County Commissioners meeting on June 6, 2023, Mayor Weiss presented a proclamation recognizing Joe Bergeron for his 40 years of service to the county. He joined the county’s Internal Auditor’s Office in 1983, moved to the Financial Management Division in 1985, was the fiscal director of Engineering and Public Works Department in 1986, became the Capital Budget manager in 1992 and was appointed the county internal auditor in 2004. The Internal Auditor’s Office successfully passed peer reviews, which take place every three years, in 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019 and most recently in 2022. During his 19 year tenure as county internal auditor, the audit team issued 317 audit reports containing approximately 1,000 suggestions and recommendations for improvements in business processes and internal controls. Throughout his 40-year career with the county, Joe Bergeron has always been admired and respected for his longstanding dedication and impeccable professionalism.
