At the Board of County Commissioners meeting on Oct. 3, 2023, Commissioner Bernard presented a proclamation declaring October 2023 as Poverty Awareness Month in Palm Beach County. The Citizens Advisory Committee on Health and Human Services, Birth to 22 United for Brighter Futures alliance and Community Service Department Community Action Program formed the Securing Our Future Initiative, a comprehensive plan to reduce the poverty rate in the county by 10% over the next 10 years. The initiative helps to financially stabilize families, provide skill-building and internship opportunities and remove systemic barriers that prevent access to employment and support services.
