Federal Communications Commission selects County Commissioner Gregg Weiss to serve on Intergovernmental Advisory Committee

Palm Beach County Commissioner Gregg Weiss, a retired business executive from California, will join other elected officials from all over the United States on the Intergovernmental Advisory Committee (IAC) of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC or Commission).

He will serve for a two year term staring on March 13, 2024. “I’m honored to serve on the IAC and provide advice and feedback to the FCC and look forward to working with other leaders on important issues,” said Weiss.

The FCC is committed to serving state, county, local and Tribal interests by actively soliciting their input in our regulatory processes, and vigilantly assessing the impact our decisions might have on their respective governments. The IAC serves as a valuable source of information and guidance to the Commission on a broad range of telecommunications issues of concern to state, county, local and municipal governments. The IAC shall meet approximately four (4) times a year in Washington D.C.

ABOUT THE IAC
The mission of the Intergovernmental Advisory Committee is to provide aid to the Commission on the many telecommunications issues affecting local, state and Tribal governments that are within the jurisdiction of the FCC. The IAC is composed of elected officials of municipal, county, state, and Tribal governments. The duties of the Committee may include providing guidance to the Commission, gathering data and information, aiding the agency on outreach when needed, and performing analyses the Commission deems necessary to respond to the questions or matters before it.

ABOUT COMMISSIONER WEISS
Commissioner Gregg Weiss, a retired business executive from California, was elected to the District 2 seat of the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners in November 2018, and reelected in 2022.
He serves on a variety of boards locally, statewide, and nationally.

Gregg believes in technology that works for the people. He’s been spearheading efforts to expand access to high-speed internet, and he is leading a national committee that is looking into how local governments can use AI in a responsible and ethical manner.

He’s a water guy, promoting water supply and water quality, and protecting sensitive ecosystems such as the Lake Worth lagoon and Grassy Waters Preserve.
Gregg has been leading the fight against bigotry and hatred. Speaking up against all forms of hate and spearheading a local ordinance addressing vandalism, property and hate crimes.
He’s also about bolstering mental health, and works on improving access to services for those in need, which includes expanding mental health court in Palm Beach County.
Gregg promotes economic development that supports good paying jobs.
He believes in being a good steward of your taxpayer dollars.

Gregg is a member of Temple Israel, and lives in West Palm Beach with his wife Rebecca.
