At the Board of County Commissioners meeting on March 5, 2024, Commissioner Weiss presented a proclamation declaring March 10-17, 2024 as Literacy AmeriCorps Week. The mission of the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County is to improve the quality of life in our community by promoting and achieving literacy. The organization recruits and trains 30 members a year to serve as tutors, coaches and teachers throughout the county. AmeriCorps members are assigned to elementary schools, high schools, libraries and family literacy centers where they tutor students, provide graduation coaching and teach adult literacy.
