​Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department (PBCWUD) has been recognized by the national WateReuse Association with an “Excellence in Transformational Innovation Award" for the Green Cay Phase II project. The project includes the Reclamation Education & Center for Advanced Purification (RECAP) and a public park, both slated to open in late 2026.

The WateReuse Awards for Excellence program recognizes projects nationwide that have made a contribution to greater water reuse implementation. PBCWUD was one of just two recipients selected by the national organization for “The Transformational Innovation" award.

In late March, construction began on the project, the first of its kind in Florida to implement state-of-the-art reuse technology to produce purified water to potable standards. The design-build project will recharge groundwater supplies to meet future demands as the county's population continues to grow, while the immersive education center will inform visitors of all ages on the importance of protecting our water resources now, and for future generations.

The WateReuse Association is the nation's only trade association solely dedicated to advancing laws, policy, funding, and public acceptance of recycled water. PBCWUD, the only ISO 550001-certifed utility in North America, serves over 635,000 residents of Palm Beach County, with drinking water, wastewater and reclaimed water services.
