![]() Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) In July 2008, Palm Beach County Head Start was approved to provide VPK at 19 of its sites, including delegate agencies and contract provider partners, serving 606 children. VPK was initially implemented in 2002 to give all of Florida's four-year olds access to a quality pre-kindergarten educational experience. Our program participates in the 540-hour School Year VPK program. ![]() English Language Learners Other Initiatives Lena Rahming & Maude Ford Lee Scholarship program – provides college scholarships to high achieving Head Start Alumni. Annual Youth Crime Prevention Summit – Head Start cooperates with community organizations and local law enforcement to share information with families on crime prevention and building community relationships. Children’s Growth and Development Research – Head Start partners with universities to conduct professional research on child growth and development, particularly in the area of English Language Learners. Special Quest –Head Start invests in training to enhance services to children with disabilities through the Special Quest Training modules. An early intervention team ensures proper delivery of services through needs assessment. Tee Ball – Under the Male Involvement Initiative, tee ball teams actively compete in this program. Team coaches are volunteer fathers and father figures. Games are well supported and attended by parents, family members and the community at-large. |
